Did you know that the Bible tells us that God actually takes
joy from certain things? Some of them may surprise you.
God has delight in:
Obedience
(1 Samuel 15:22)
David (2
Samuel 22:20; Psalm 18:19; 22:8)
Solomon (1
Kings 10:9; 2 Chronicles 9:8)
Wisdom
(Proverbs 8:30)
A fair
weight (Proverbs 11:1)
Those who
are upright (Proverbs 11:20)
Those who
“deal truly” (Proverbs 12:22)
“The prayer
of the upright” (Proverbs 15:8)
The nation
of Israel (Isaiah 62:4)
Lovingkindness
(Jeremiah 9:24)
Judgment
(Jeremiah 9:24)
Righteousness
(Jeremiah 9:24)
The concept of God’s being delighted in anything is amazing.
That we could bring God joy through
our obedience, our fairness in business, our truthfulness, or our prayers is
humbling. That God watches our actions and might rejoice in them helps us
understand our value to Him.
That God was delighted in David and Solomon—two
good but human men, with their faults—shows us He can be delighted in us, if we
have the right heart towards Him.
I thought it was interesting that God
delights in judgment, just as He delights in wisdom, lovingkindness, and
righteousness.
Let’s be a delight to our Lord! We can be a blessing to Him.
