We’re expecting a new baby! Our son and his wife are looking
forward to seeing their new little one early next year. It is an exciting time
for them and for us, too. Another grandchild! How fun!
Today, I was reading in Ecclesiastes about the amazing work
of God in forming a little human being. As thou knowest not what is the way of the spirit, nor how
the bones do grow in the womb of her that is with child: even so thou knowest
not the works of God who maketh all.
(11:5) This verse clearly teaches that God makes children. How He does
it is a mystery, but He forms their little bodies.
Psalm 139:13-16 expresses David’s appreciation for God’s creation
of his own body before he was born. For thou hast possessed my reins: thou hast covered
me in my mother’s womb. I will praise thee; for I am fearfully and wonderfully
made: marvellous are thy works; and that my soul knoweth right well. My
substance was not hid from thee, when I was made in secret, and curiously
wrought in the lowest parts of the earth. Thine eyes did see my substance, yet
being unperfect; and in thy book all my members were written, which in
continuance were fashioned, when as yet there was none of them.
It is totally awesome, when we
think of the complexity of the human body, that all this resulted from two
cells. It’s also amazing that God gave us each a soul, a personality, and made
us with different physical characteristics.
I think of my own two children, so
alike, and yet so different. When they were born, they looked alike. No
questioning who their father was! (They both still look like him.) We have one
blond with green eyes and one with dark hair and almost black eyes. The blond
tans easily. The dark one burns and then tans. Each is different in
personality, and so they have always been best friends. Both have musical
ability. Both love to read. Both have many different interests, and both
practice sport. But, they are far, far from being clones! One is a people
person, if ever there was one. The other is more quiet, though also liking
people. One is driven. One is more relaxed. Both are perfectionists—in
different ways. Each has his own unique personality. Each was created by God to
be who he is.
And, so it is with your children.
Each is unique. Each was planned by the Lord Himself. Each is a result of God’s
planning and fashioning them as they are, before they were born.
Lo, children are an heritage of the LORD: and the fruit of
the womb is his reward. As arrows are in the hand of a mighty man; so are
children of the youth. Happy is the man that hath his quiver full of them: they
shall not be ashamed, but they shall speak with the enemies in the gate. Thy
wife shall be as a fruitful vine by the sides of thine house: thy children like
olive plants round about thy table. Behold, that thus shall the man be blessed
that feareth the LORD. Yea, thou shalt see thy children’s children, and peace
upon Israel (Psalm 127:3-5; 128:3-4,6).
Yes, babies are blessings!
Congratulations on the new grandchild! How exciting! I'm so eager to become a grandma some day!
ReplyDeleteA big congrats to you, Granma Lou Ann! What a blessing -- and you've probably only just begun! These children are blessed as well -- to have you for their wonderful grandmother.
