A Valentine for Singles

When I was a little girl—don’t laugh; I really was one a long time ago!—we used to decorate shoe boxes with pink and white paper and red hearts. We’d cut a slit in the top, and they served as mailboxes. At school, all the children brought Valentines for the whole class, and we all got Valentines from all of our classmates. It was a win-win! You give friendship; you get friendship.

Then, we entered our teen years, and believe me: we didn’t want Valentines from our classmates! Ew!

In our later teens, we might have had a special someone . . . .

I remember the first time my husband wrote that he loved me—on a tiny Valentine’s card that accompanied flowers.

Valentines. They mean different things at different stages of our lives.

I always think of my single friends at this time of year. I always want to send them flowers. Singles need to feel special, too.

Single women have a special role in the body of Christ:

The unmarried woman careth for the things of the Lord,
that she may be holy both in body and in spirit (from 1 Corinthians 7:34).

So here’s a bouquet of love for you, my friends! I wish it were real, and I wish it could be delivered to each of your houses by a drop-dead handsome delivery man. (Did I just say that?!!)

I want you to know you’re loved. You are appreciated. You're my Valentine today. Please enjoy your flowers—even if you can’t smell them.

The LORD hath appeared of old unto me, saying,
Yea, I have loved thee with an everlasting love:
therefore with lovingkindness have I drawn thee (Jeremiah 31:3).

Now Jesus loved Martha, and her sister, and Lazarus (All were singles! John 11:5).

Jesus said, As the Father hath loved me,
so have I loved you: continue ye in my love (John 15:9).

Who shall separate us from the love of Christ?
Shall tribulation, or distress, or persecution, or famine,
or nakedness, or peril, or sword?
For I am persuaded, that neither death, nor life, nor angels,
nor principalities, nor powers, nor things present, nor things to come,
Nor height, nor depth, nor any other creature,
shall be able to separate us from the love of God,
Which is in Christ Jesus our Lord (Romans 8: 35, 38-39).

May you feel His love--and mine--today!

Happy Valentine's Day!

  2. Love this. Sometimes I feel a little guilty posting what my loving family does for me - I want to give them the tribute, but I don't want people to feel bad who don't have that.
