More Than Conquerors

I firmly believe that anyone can succeed. A person might be disadvantaged or disabled, but he can still succeed. Anyone can succeed by God’s definition of success.

This book of the law shall not depart out of thy mouth; but thou shalt meditate therein day and night, that thou mayest observe to do according to all that is written therein: for then thou shalt make thy way prosperous, and then thou shalt have good success (Joshua 1:8). By the biblical definition, success is all about obeying God’s Word. It has nothing to do with wealth, health, or even ability. It’s about loving God and obeying what we know of His Word.

Nay, in all these things we are more than conquerors through him that loved us. The context of this verse, these things, is: Jesus death for us all, God’s justification of His own, the lack of condemnation for those who are saved, and the fact that Jesus intercedes for us. Then, the Bible says, Who shall separate us from the love of Christ? shall tribulation, or distress, or persecution, or famine, or nakedness, or peril, or sword? As it is written, For thy sake we are killed all the day long; we are accounted as sheep for the slaughter. And then, our verse: Nay, in all these things we are more than conquerors through him that loved us. (Romans 8:35-37)

Conqueror = one who gains over or wins by overcoming obstacles or opposition, one who overcomes by mental or moral power.* A conqueror is an overcomer.

I love that concept!

In the face of obstacles and opposition, there’s victory. Overcoming. Conquering.

The Lord Jesus has given true believers victory. Let’s explore the victory we have in Him:
  • Victory over deathO death, where is thy sting? O grave, where is thy victory? . . . But thanks be to God, which giveth us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ (1 Corinthians 15:55, 57).
  • Victory over false prophets, false messagesYe are of God, little children, and have overcome them: because greater is he that is in you, than he that is in the world (1 John 4:4).
  • Victory over the sinful world systemFor whatsoever is born of God overcometh the world: and this is the victory that overcometh the world, even our faith. Who is he that overcometh the world, but he that believeth that Jesus is the Son of God? (1 John 5:4-5)
  • Did you notice that victory comes through our Lord Jesus Christ, by God’s greatness, through our belief in Jesus as Son of God? God gives victory. God conquers. God helps us overcome.

Do you need to be encouraged today?

When David was in fear for his life, with grieving men all around him, he turned to God for encouragement. And David was greatly distressed; for the people spake of stoning him, because the soul of all the people was grieved, every man for his sons and for his daughters: but David encouraged himself in the LORD his God (1 Samuel 30:6).

Our minds, our hearts can be encouraged when they go to the right place—to our Lord and Savior. So many times, we look for happiness in people and circumstances. We look for satisfaction in material things and happy situations. But, the only place we need to go is to the Lord Himself.

A conqueror overcomes. He is a victor. Nay, in all these things we are more than conquerors through him that loved us.

More than conquerors . . . not just overcomers, but more than conquerors!

We are more than conquerors.

In the present.

Let’s live as conquerors. We have the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ.

Greater is he that is in you, than he that is in the world.

  1. A mutual friend of ours did a conference last fall, during which he said something that keeps me going in the tough times, which are legion: "It's always too early to give up." I can't promise that this will always be true, but it's working so far. Thank you for your encouragement today.
